Hiding the true Islam

A group in California says history textbooks being used in San Diego school district are covering up the truth about Islam.
Michael Hayutin, San Diego chapter leader of the group ACT for America, says the controversial textbook called “World History, Medieval to Early Modern Times” teaches students a false view of the Muslim faith.
After careful analysis, he and several colleagues say the book contains 22 errors about the meaning of jihad, polygamy and slavery in Islam – something the group wants remedied.
“If the school’s going to bother to teach about Islam, they should do it as history is, according to the facts. If they want to romanticize it, they can put it in fairy tales,” Hayutin said.
Muslim scholar Tesheen Lazzouni of Solana Beach disputes Hayutin’s claims, saying he has his facts wrong.
“Maybe there might be a verse talking about war, but then failing to quote the verse right after that that talks about peace,” Hayutin said.
She notes that school administrators approved the textbook and argues it should be left as is.
“I honestly think that they are using this world history issue as a pretext to malign and discredit Islam and Muslims,” she charged.
But Hayutin vehemently rejects claims that he or his group is anti-Muslim.
“What can i say? We aren’t. They can make any accusation that they want to make,” he said.
Meanwhile, the book is being reviewed by the state board of education.

WikiLeaks: West fears of possible Islamization of Turkish armed forces

Publication time: 9 February 2011, 18:57

Anti-Islamic forces in Turkey are concerned about their problem of “how insidiously and cunningly Erdogan’s government has slipped Islamic fundamentalists into various ministries”. We would like to mention in this context that the term “Islamic fundamentalist” here means a person who makes prayers, i.e., prays regularly.

The U.S. State Department secret cables published by WikiLeaks show, in particular, the concern of the British government in connection with the internal situation in Turkey.

The Brits’ contacts also said the Turkish military feared they would be targeted next by the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, government, a 2009 U.S. diplomatic cable published by the Daily Telegraph indicates.

“If this were to occur, the British government believes the military would face an internal power struggle with unknown consequences for NATO and the [European Union], but it would almost definitely lead to a hard-line position on Cyprus,” wrote an American diplomat in Ankara.

According to the cable, British officials were tired of “hitting their heads against the brick wall” of Turkey’s refusal to separate the Cypriot question from Turkey’s NATO role.

“The U.K. government is very concerned that the Turkish military is not as confident as it used to be, the threat from the fundamentalists is sparking self-doubt within the military, and the fallout from the Ergenekon investigations have tainted the military’s reputation”.

The only lever of influence on Turkey, the British believe, is the United States, wrote an American diplomat, but “devoid of the traditional self-confidence and weakened the latest trends, the Turkish army may not be able to respond positively to American influence.”

The cable said the U.K. government believed the U.S. government was the only power that possessed sufficient leverage with Turkey, but, “without its traditional confidence, and weakened by both of these related developments, the Turkish military’s ability to respond positively to the U.S. government leverage is weakened”

It is to be mentioned in this context that Turkey has always been under a special control of the Western alliance, because the historical experience of the Ottoman Islamic Caliphate that existed for 600 years, is capable, according to the experts, to awaken Muslims to revive any time their lost Islamic state.

WikiLeaks. ‘Israel’ wants see Omar Suleiman as head of Egypt

WikiLeaks which published another batch of leaks of U.S. diplomatic cables confirmed an expert evaluation by the Kavkaz Center that a former intelligence chief of Egypt, who was hastily appointed vice-president, Omar Suleiman, was the most preferred figure for the United States and “Israel” to the post of a new puppet head of Egypt.

Suleiman, who is widely tipped to take over from Hosni Mubarak as president, was named as “Israel”s preferred candidate for the job after discussions with American officials in 2008.

As a key figure working for Middle East peace, he once suggested that “Israeli” troops would be “welcome” to invade Egypt to stop weapons being smuggled to Hamas in neighbouring Gaza.

The details, which emerged in secret files obtained by WikiLeaks and passed to The Daily Telegraph, come after Suleiman began talks with opposition groups on the future for Egypt’s government.

On Saturday, Suleiman won the backing of Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, to lead the “transition” to democracy after two weeks of demonstrations calling for President Mubarak to resign.

David Cameron, the Prime Minister, spoke to Suleiman yesterday and urged him to take “bold and credible steps” to show the world that Egypt is embarking on an “irreversible, urgent and real” transition.

Leaked cables from American embassies in Cairo and Tel Aviv disclose the close co-operation between Suleiman and the US and “Israeli” governments as well as diplomats’ intense interest in likely successors to the ageing President Mubarak, 83.

The documents highlight the delicate position which the Egyptian government seeks to maintain in Middle East politics, as a leading Arab nation with a strong relationship with the US and “Israel”. By 2008, Suleiman, who was head of the foreign intelligence service, had become Israel’s main point of contact in the Egyptian government.

David Hacham, a senior adviser from the “Israeli” Ministry of Defence, told the American embassy in Tel Aviv that a delegation led by “Israel”s defence minister, Ehud Barak had been impressed by Suleiman, whose name is spelled “Soliman” in some cables.

But Hacham was “shocked” by President Mubarak’s “aged appearance and slurred speech”.

The cable, from August 2008, said: “Hacham was full of praise for Soliman, however, and noted that a ‘hot line’ set up between the MOD and Egyptian General Intelligence Service is now in daily use.

“Hacham noted that the “Israelis” believe Soliman is likely to serve as at least an interim President if Mubarak dies or is incapacitated.” The Tel Aviv diplomats added: “We defer to Embassy Cairo for analysis of Egyptian succession scenarios, but there is no question that “Israel” is most comfortable with the prospect of Omar Soliman.”

Elsewhere the documents disclose that Suleiman was stung by “Israeli” criticism of Egypt’s inability to stop arms smugglers transporting weapons to Palestinian militants in Gaza. At one point he suggested that “Israel” send troops into the Egyptian border region of Philadelphi to “stop the smuggling”.

“In their moments of greatest frustration, [Egyptian Defence Minister] Tantawi and Soliman each have claimed that the IDF [“Israel” Defence Forces] would be ‘welcome’ to re-invade Philadelphi, if the IDF thought that would stop the smuggling,” the cable said.

The files suggest that Suleiman wanted Hamas “isolated”, and thought Gaza should “go hungry but not starve”.

“We have a short time to reach peace,” he told US diplomats. “We need to wake up in the morning with no news of terrorism, no explosions, and no news of more deaths.”

Yesterday, Hosni Mubarak’s control of Egypt’s state media, a vital lynchpin of his 30-year presidency, started to slip as the country’s largest-circulation newspaper declared its support for the uprising.

Hoping to sap the momentum from street protests demanding his overthrow, the president has instructed his deputy to launch potentially protracted negotiations with secular and Islamist opposition parties. The talks continued for a second day yesterday without yielding a significant breakthrough.

But Mubarak was dealt a significant setback as the state-controlled Al-Ahram, Egypt’s second oldest newspaper and one of the most famous publications in the Middle East, abandoned its long-standing slavish support for the regime.

In a front-page leading article, the newspaper hailed the “nobility” of the “revolution” and demanded the government embark on irreversible constitutional and legislative changes.

Sverdlovsk anthrax leak

Source : Wikipedia

The Sverdlovsk anthrax leak is an incident when spores of anthrax were accidentally released from a military facility in the city of Sverdlovsk (formerly, and now again, Yekaterinburg) 1450 km east of Moscow on April 2, 1979. This accident is sometimes called “biological Chernobyl“.[1] The ensuing outbreak of the disease resulted in approximately 100 deaths, although the exact number of victims remains unknown. The cause of the outbreak had for years been denied by the Soviet Union, which blamed the deaths on intestinal exposure due to the consumption of tainted meat from the area, and subcutaneous exposure due to butchers handling the tainted meat. All medical records of the victims had been removed in order to avoid revelations of serious violations of the Biological Weapons Convention.

The closed city of Sverdlovsk had been a major production center of the Soviet military-industrial complex since World War II. It produced tanks, nuclear rockets and other armaments. A major nuclear accident happened in this region in 1958, when a military reactor was damaged, resulting in the spread of radioactive dust over a thousand square kilometers. The biological weapons facility in Sverdlovsk was built after World War II, using documentation captured in Manchuria from the Japanese germ warfare program.[1]

The strain of anthrax produced in Military Compound 19 near Sverdlovsk was the most powerful in the Soviet arsenal (“Anthrax 836”). It had been isolated as a result of another anthrax leak accident that happened in 1953 in the city of Kirov. A leak from a bacteriological facility contaminated the city sewer system. In 1956, biologist Vladimir Sizov found a more virulent strain in rodents captured in this area. This strain was planned to be used to arm warheads for the SS-18 ICBM, which would target American cities, among other targets.[1]

The accident

The produced anthrax culture had to be dried to produce a fine powder for use as an aerosol. Large filters over the exhaust pipes were the only barriers between the anthrax dust and the outside environment. On the last Friday of March 1979, a technician removed a clogged filter while drying machines were temporarily turned off. He left a written notice, but did not write this down in the logbook as he was supposed to do. The supervisor of the next shift did not find anything unusual in the logbook, and turned the machines on. In a few hours, someone found that the filter was missing and reinstalled it. The incident was reported to military command, but local and city officials were not immediately informed. Boris Yeltsin, a local Communist Party boss at this time, was helping to cover up the accident.[1]

All workers of a ceramic plant across the street fell ill during the next few days. Almost all of them died in a week. The death toll was at least 105, but the exact number is unknown as all hospital records and other evidence were destroyed by the KGB, according to former Biopreparat deputy director Ken Alibek.[1]

The investigation

In the 1980s, there was vigorous international debate and speculation as to whether the outbreak was natural or an accidental exposure. If accidental, there was discussion of whether it represented violation of the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention. A number of small investigations launched by Russian scientists in the years immediately following the dissolution of the Soviet Union re-opened the case in a number of newspaper articles.

A team of Western inspectors lead by Professor Matthew Meselson of Harvard finally gained access to the region in 1992, and determined that all of the victims had been living directly downwind at the time of the release of the spores via aerosol. Livestock in the area were also affected. It was revealed around this time that the accident was caused by the non-replacement of a filter on an exhaust at the facility, and though the problem was quickly rectified it was too late to prevent a release. Had the winds been blowing in the direction of the city at that time, it could have resulted in the pathogen being spread to hundreds of thousands of people. The military facility remains closed to inspection. Professor Meselson’s original contention for many years had been that the outbreak was a natural one and that the Soviet authorities were not lying when they disclaimed having an active offensive bio-warfare program, but the information uncovered in the investigation left no room for doubt.[2] Meselson’s wife, Jeanne Guillemin (who had participated in the investigation), detailed the events in a 1999 book.[3]

Russian Prime Minister Egor Gaidar issued a decree to begin demilitarization of Compound 19 in 1992. However, the facility continued its work. Not a single journalist has been allowed onto the premises since 1992. About 200 soldiers with Rottweiler dogs still patrol the complex. Classified activities were moved underground, and several new laboratories have been constructed and equipped to work with highly dangerous pathogens.[4] One of their current subjects is reportedly Bacillus anthracis strain H-4. Its virulence and antibiotic resistance have been dramatically increased using genetic engineering.[4]

Very interesting findings of

Dr.Tarig Al Swaidan discovered some verses in the

Holy Qur’an

That mention one thing is equal to another,

i.e. Men are equal to women.

Although this makes sense grammatically,

The astonishing fact is that the number of

Times the word man appears in

TheHoly Qur’an

Is 24 and number of times the word

Woman appears is also 24,

Therefore not only is this phrase correct in

The grammatical sense but also true mathematically,

i.e. 24 = 24.

Upon further analysis of various verses,

He discovered that this is consistent throughout the whole

Holy Qur’an

French, U.S. imams talk about being Muslim military chaplains

Source : Reuters

imams-threeBoth are Muslims. Both are chaplains. Both are in the military. But one is French and one is American. That alone ensured there would be enough to talk about when Mohamed-Ali Bouharb and Abu- hena Saifulislam met in Paris to discuss their work with chaplains and academics from the United States.

(Photo: Bouharb (l) and Saifulislam with CIEE’s Hannah Taieb. Note the Islamic crescents on Bouharb’s cap and Saifulislam’s sleeves, 7 June 2009/Tom Heneghan)

Muslim chaplaincies are relatively new additions to the armed forces in Europe and North America. Establishing their place alongside the traditional Catholic, Protestant and Jewish offices of religious services has not always been easy, even though both imams reported the top brass in their countries strongly supported the effort. While they tend to the spiritual needs of their co-religionists in the ranks, as other chaplains do, these imams also spend much time explaining their religion and its practices to their non-Muslim superiors. Both spoke of the obvious issues such as getting halal food or having time and space for Muslim prayers. Both had encountered questions from both within the forces and outside in the Muslim community asking why they had agreed to work as imams in the military. Their presentations were part of a seminar entitled “Religious Diversity in Everyday Life in France” organised by the U.S.-based Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and the Institute for the Study of Islam and the Societies of the Muslim World in Paris.Bouharb, 32, is a French-born Muslim with Tunisian roots who studied Islam at a private Muslim institute in Paris and graduated from a special training course for imams at the Catholic Institute here. He is chaplain to the National Gendarmerie, which comes under the Defence Ministry. France only launched its Muslim chaplain corps in 2005 and it is still finding its way. “I first got a two-year contract. It’s just been extended by four years. Nothing is certain. We’ll see the results in 20 years,” he told the meeting on Sunday. Bouhard stressed how tricky the issues he faces can be as he discussed the delicate bridge function he has to play with the example of five French Muslim soldiers who refused to go to Afghanistan:

“If a Muslim soldier doesn’t want to go to Afghanistan for religious reasons, that’s his right. My role is not to convince him. But if he doesn’t want to go, he shouldn’t be in the army. That’s not a religious opinion. Sometimes the Muslim chaplain has to put aside his religious role and deconstruct what is religious and what is not. What I do is go see the soldier and ask him about his vision of Islam. I can help him to understand things better, but not to make a decision… If a soldier’s not clear in his mind (about shooting at Taliban), he might hesitate for a moment. That could endanger the troops around him…“To the commanders, I say I’m not the representative of a Muslim soldiers’ trade union. When those five refused to go, people said the Muslim chaplains weren’t doing their jobs. It was all over the media. But the chaplain’s duty is not to ensure the cohesion of the troops. (The doubting soldier) could endanger others. My religious duty is not to put those others in danger… We Muslim chaplains asked for a right to reply to the media but the Defence Ministry press office said it was not worth the effort… They were right. A few weeks later, all was forgotten.”

Another issue was whether Muslim soldiers due for commando training had to fast if the session occurred during Ramadan. “They get up at 3 a.m. and march for 25 kms with backpacks weighing 25 kilos. It’s very difficult to fast,” he said. Muslim soldiers asked him what to do. “I told them that, if you signed up to do this training, you have to respect that contract. You can stop your fast and catch up on those days after Ramadan is over.” Ten Qatari soldiers in France for advanced training could not understand why the session was not rescheduled, as it would be in their majority Muslim society, but Bouharb said it could not be and the Muslim soldiers had to adjust. “There is only one Islam, but there are many ways of expressing it,” he said.imams-twoSaifulislam, who emigrated to the U.S. from Bangladesh in 1989 and became a U.S. Navy imam 10 years later, had a slightly different approach. “If there is special training during Ramadan, I ask the commander if it can be moved to another date,” he said, stressing he was giving his personal opinion and not speaking in an official capacity. “I tell the Muslims that they’re away from home while on training so they can not fast and make it up later. It’s his or her call. I provide the counsel.”

(Photo: Bouharb and Saifulislam, 7 June 2009/Tom Heneghan)

He said there were about a dozen imams in the U.S. armed forces, which appointed their first Muslim chaplain in 1993. That compares to over 800 Christian and Jewish chaplains in the Navy alone, he said. “They don’t necessarily need us for the number of Muslim soldiers but to advise them on religious inclusiveness, like about how Islamic practices can affect a mission, before they deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan. They get training in cultural sensitivity.”Possibly because imams have served in the U.S. military for longer than in the French, the American Muslim chaplains seemed more integrated into the overall chaplain corps. Saifulislam said:

Ninety-nine percent of the people who come to me for counselling are from another faith. They come to you with issues, it could be about family, stress or violence. People can get more religious in boot camp, also in prison. I’ve also been trained in suicide prevention, PTSD recognition and crisis management. We also do grief counselling, regardless of the religion. Of course, we don’t perform services for other religions. You’re not going to see me baptise a baby! But we facilitate things. If someone comes to me as a Wiccan and asks for a place to pray, I help them. The Department of Defense recognises over 290 different religions and denominations. If a Muslim asks one of the other chaplains to help him get a copy of the Koran, he has to help him.”

Brian is in hospital with lung cancer and I have arranged through Mike Lambert at the Shen Clinic for him to have revolutionary treatment in Europe and this appeal is to help to pay for that and his travel and accommodation. He is due to start the treatment in very early January so we need to move on this.

Brian has been protesting 24/7 outside the Houses of Parliament since 2001 to constantly highlight the slaughter and suffering of children killed and maimed by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the horrors visited upon them by depleted uranium.

For this extraordinary commitment, he has been beaten up many times by thugs and police (too often the same thing), and arrest, abuse and threats have become a way of life. The Blair government even passed new laws to remove him, but they couldn’t make them retrospective and so he stayed.

Brian wants to get well and return to the Square to continue his protest. When I have visited him in hospital that is his constant focus even when faced with the current threat to his life. No-one is guaranteeing that the treatment will work, of course, but we want to give him every chance. Please help.
