London, Dec 17 (bdnews24.com)—One wire by the US embassy stressed that Bangladeshi peacekeepers to the UN missions needed to be put under surveillance.
It indicates suspicion that Bangladesh’s interest in peacekeeping in Africa has more to do with building influence in Africa than goodwill to the UN.
Accordingly, the communiqué requests all possible details be included when reporting on such persons in UN organisations.
These details include an exhaustive list: “names, position titles and other information on business cards; numbers of telephones, cell phones, pagers and faxes; compendia of contact information, such as telephone directories (in compact disc or electronic format if available) and e-mail listings; internet and intranet ‘handles’, internet e-mail addresses, web site identification-URLs; credit card account numbers; frequent flyer account numbers; work schedules, and other relevant biographical information”.
